For the first time since 2010, the UCF women’s basketball team will meet the Florida Gators on the hardwood. The American-SEC Women’s Basketball Challenge was announced on Wednesday and will take place in Jacksonville, Florida, at the Veterans Memorial Arena on Dec. 30.

“The American Athletic Conference is pleased to announce this two-game challenge with the SEC,” Associate Commissioner Barbara Jacobs said in a press release. “Our teams are looking forward to bringing the talent and intensity of The American to their fans in Jacksonville for what are sure to be outstanding matchups.”

UCF fell 77-67 during its last meeting with Florida, which was played in Gator territory.

USF will face Mississippi State in addition to the UCF game. Ticket information, television network and game times for the challenge have not been released.

The matchup holds history for UCF head coach Joi Williams, who spent 12 years at Florida. She held the titles of recruiting coordinator and assistant coach for the Gators from 1990 through 2002. Williams is entering her ninth season with the Knights.

UCF, led by leading scorer and American Athletic Conference Second Team selection from a season ago Zykira Lewis, will have five new faces during the upcoming season.

UCF’s full 2015-16 schedule has not been released.
