UCF to host 22nd annual Hunger Banquet
Volunteer UCF will be hosting its 22nd annual Hunger Banquet in the Pegasus Ballroom on Monday, Nov. 16.
The banquet, which will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., is an initiative aimed at raising awareness for the struggles of hunger and homelessness both locally and around the world, according to a release.
Students attending the event will participate in a social experiment where they will be randomly assigned to a high, middle or low class. Afterward, they will be given food and seating arrangements according to their social ranking.
“This event is great because the social class separation simulation is interactive for students and that aspect really leaves an understanding about the hunger struggles so many people are faced with on a daily basis,” said VUCF hunger and homelessness director, Arianne Abreu in the release.
Dave Krepcho, President and CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank and photographer Judy Tracy will address students with a visual presentation about the effects of homelessness and hunger.
Collections of canned foods will be donated to Knights Pantry.
The Hunger Banquet will be the first campus event on UCF recognizing National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week starting Nov. 14.
